Tirana Day Trips
If you’re spending a few days in Albania’s hectic capital, you’ll probably want to get out of the city to see some of the local countryside, or discover its nearby attractions. We can arrange private Tirana day trips built around your interests, whether you want a packed day of cultural discovery or simply want to lie on a beach and soak up the sun.
We started life as a specialist in 4×4 tours, putting together trips for UK tour operator Drive Albania. We know have our own small fleet of new Lada Niva 4x4s based in Tirana, and are happy to arrange off-road day trips from Tirana – if we have the vehicles available, of course! Unlike many companies offering jeep safaris, we’re more than happy for you to take the wheel. The challenges of the route will depend on your experience.
Wine & Gastronomy
If you’ve travelled through the Balkans you’ll know that meatballs are the dietery staple. Albania, thankfully, is different. Perhaps due to the Italian influence, Albanian cuisine is a huge step up on that of Former Yugoslavia, and there are many superb restaurants in and around Tirana. We’re happy to arrange gastronomic Tirana day trips to our favourite restaurants and wineries, and give you an insight into the local culinary scene.
If you’re looking for a day trip from Tirana with a cultural focus, then we can provide a numer of options. Historic Kruja is an obvious option, and can easily be combined with Durrës. The UNESCO World Heritage City of Berat is now much easier to reach than it was even a couple of years ago thanks to recent road improvements. Even Shkodër, in the north of Albania, is achievable if you’re prepared for a long drive there and back (two hours each way; more in summertime). We consider cities such as Ohrid or Korça to be too far from Tirana to be visited in an enjoyable day, but can be persuaded if you’re determined!
Albania’s best beaches are to the south of Vlorë, so can’t be reached easily from Tirana in a day. Durrës, for some reason, is considered a beach destination, but we wouldn’t swim there. The beaches are crowded and the water dirty. However, it’s not all bad news if you want to escape the city for the day. There are some less well-known beaches within easy reach of Tirana with clean water, and a fraction of the crowds.
